Attention: Important Announcement about Bus Service on April 5th

April 3rd Update: 
SPS learned from the bus company this morning that Monday morning bus routes should be running at or near the scheduled time on time! Significant delays are no longer expected, according to First Student, the company that provides bus service to our students.

Yesterday, the bus company had reported a bus driver shortage, a situation that could have caused widespread delays in bus pick up and drop off on the District’s first day of in-person learning on April 5.  

“We’re just elated to hear this good news from First Student this morning,” said Superintendent of Schools Daniel Warwick. “Obviously, they worked feverishly all day yesterday and through the night to address this issue and we are so appreciative that we believe our families can now expect a regular first-day-of-school bus experience.”




April 2, 2021 - Families whose students will be taking the bus to school Monday morning should expect possible delays in pickup and drop off times and a possible change in your student’s assigned bus number.

Superintendent of Schools Daniel Warwick said First Student, the third-party vendor contracted to provide bus services for the district, said the issue is caused by an unanticipated shortage of bus drivers. First Student hires their own unionized bus drivers to fulfill their contractual obligations with the district, Warwick said.

“We were very surprised to learn of this issue and we trust First Student is working feverishly to address it. Our biggest regret is the inconvenience this creates for our families and we will continue to communicate with families so they will know what to expect throughout the week,” said Warwick. “Needless to say, we are monitoring the issue very closely.”
